Yankees remain most popular MLB team
(June 4) The New York Yankees
remain the US’ most popular Major League Baseball team,
according to a major survey. They beat off competition from
the Chicago Cubs and the Atlanta Braves, who came second and
third. The Harris Poll quizzed just over 2,500 people across
the United States in April – with just under 1,000 saying
they followed Major League Baseball.
The top ten teams were:
1. New York Yankees
2. Chicago Cubs
3. Atlanta Braves
4. Boston Red Sox
5. Detroit Tigers
6. Philadelphia Phillies
7. San Francisco Giants
8. Baltimore Orioles
9. Los Angeles Dodgers
10. Pittsburgh Pirates

Smashnova is back
(January 13) Jon Wertheim who covers tennis
for Sports Illustrated took note of the Israeli player’s
new hyphenated name by noting the following in his weekly
column: “Speaking of comebacks -- either this was a
typo or the prayers of many have been answered -- it appears
that "Smashnova" is back. According to my sports
section, Anna Smashnova-Pistolesi is playing in this week’s
adidas International in Sydney. Sure it's a mouthful but it's
terrific that the best name in tennis (at least now that Sabine
Hack has retired) graces us again.”
Smashnova-Pistolesi beat Myriam Casanova 6-3, 6-3 to advance
to the second round on Tuesday.
